Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Development

Counter-Strike Global Offensive started out as a port to the Xbox 360 by Hidden Path Entertainment [1], but was later revamped into its fully own game, not using anything from CS:Source [2]. It has been in continous development since 2012, its release, with new updates adding maps and modes. The last major release of CSGO was at the time of this writing was 4/20/18 [3] which added Dust 2 back into the competitive map pool and removed Cobblestone from the competitive map pool. Parts of the game are currently being ported to Source 2, such as the UI [4], but the revamp of Dust 2 in 2017 has shown evidence of being made in Source 2's map editor, Hammer 2.

Gameplay

Gameplay has been kept from the former games, but has had the addition of new guns such as the AWP, a one-shot-kill sniper. New modes have been added, such as Operations, which come in the form of DLC. A new UI is being developed in Source 2, called Panorama, which will feature CSS, Javascript, and XML support. It was also feature custom loading screens. CSGO has also introduced weapon skins, which are obtained from cases dropped in game and opened with keys bought for 2.50 dollars. Skins can be designed and submitted to the Steam Workshop, which can be approved by Valve to appear in game. These skins can be sold on the steam market for money to be used on steam, or on 3rd party markets for real money, which don't have approval from Valve. The rarest skins are usually knife skins and glove skins. The most expensive skin, Karambit Case Hardened, with quality Factory New, was sold for $100,000 dollars..

Community

The majority of the Counter-Strike community plays CSGO, with new maps being released everyday. Former community made modes from the last games, such as Surf and Bhop, both modes based on skill-based movement, are activilly played on community servers, which are non-Valve supported servers.
